Where the sidewalk ends.

April 13, 2010

I’m so excited to share with you this recent session with Stacey and Brian.  They were celebrating their 4th wedding anniversary on the day that we shot this session.  They wanted something a little different and we were more than happy to accommodate that! I really wanted their session to be relaxed and romantic and for their personalities to shine through.  I think we may have achieved that!

For some reason as I was editing these this poem by Shel Silverstein kept running through my head.  I think it’s fitting, don’t you?

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Finding ourselves.

February 5, 2010

It’s been 3 weeks since I attended the Making Things Happen intensive and boy has it been busy around here. The main thing we have been discussing and working on is the process of rebranding our business.
You may wonder WHAT is rebranding exactly well………

Rebranding is the process by which a product or service developed with one brand, company or product line affiliation is marketed or distributed with a different identity. This may involve radical changes to the brand’s logo, brand name, image, marketing strategy, and advertising themes. —-from Wikipedia.

As many of you know my husband, Saylor, has become more involved in Cindy Mills Photography since I began shooting weddings. He is my assistant, second shooter and all around shoulder to lean on.  He keeps me from completely FREAKING out when things get a little rushed.  He runs to the car multiple times through out the day to get things we left and he carries all the heavy stuff.  I couldn’t do it without him…and I don’t want to.  We love shooting weddings together.  It’s fun.  Almost like a little date for us.  We get to hang out all day and sometimes even share a piece of wedding cake.  During the ceremony I almost always get teary eyed during the vows, because I am always reminded of our wedding day.  I am always moved to reflect for a few minutes on the last 7 (almost 8 ) years and how wonderful they have been and how QUICKLY they have flown by.  I am truly blessed.  Anyway, back to the topic at hand.  Since Saylor has unofficially been a part of the business for almost a year we have decided to make him an OFFICIAL part.  With this comes some changes.  We feel like we are no longer “Cindy Mills Photography”, but we are a husband and wife team.  Thus, begins the process of rebranding or as I like to call it “finding ourselves”  How do we want to represent this business to our clients and the community?

In the past 3 weeks we have talked, and talked and talked some more about who we are and what we like and we have learned a ton.  So, keep coming back to the blog for updates on this crazy journey.  We are very excited about where we are going and ready for a fresh, exciting new adventure!  Prayers for us would also be greatly appreciated as we make the transition.  We love our clients and we want to be the VERY best we can be for you all.  Thanks for your constant support.

love

Dear Blog…

July 16, 2009

Dear Blog,

I have a confession to make.  This may be hard to take, but I just can’t live with myself if I don’t tell you the truth.  I have been cheating on you.  With Twitter.  I’m sorry.  I didn’t mean for it to happen.  It just did.  Twitter is so easy going and fast and always has time for me.  Twitter makes it SO easy to share photos from my iPhone and always lets me know when my friends have something to say.  I know those reasons are not a good excuse, and I hope you will forgive me for neglecting you.  Maybe this video with make up for it.

Love, Cindy

Here is a little video I threw together (literally) last night.  I videoed and snapped about 20 mins. of Mia playing in our backyard and in about 2 hours had this sweet little video that I have been planning on making for some time now.  I keep watching it over and over and every time it chokes me up.  I can’t watch it without thinking about how someday I will show this to her when she has her own 4 year old.  I’m not sure what it is about the black and white, bubbles and that SONG, but I am just in awe today at how BEAUTIFUL my daughter is.  It makes me forget that she broke my favorite vintage camera and threw up red kool-aid in the MIDDLE of my living room carpet.  When I watch this video all I see is love and happiness!  I hope you enjoy it too.

Happy New Year.

January 3, 2009

I know I’m a procrastinator.  Give me a break it’s only the 3rd so technically it’s still close enough to the beginning of the year to say Happy New Year…………right?

Anyway, 2oo8 was a great year filled with weddings, families, high school seniors, couples, kids, babies and FUN!  I had a blast with all my clients and it was a great walk down memory lane to create this thank you/happy new year card.

I would like to sincerely wish every one of my family, friends and clients thank you for all of your support over the past (almost) 3 years.  I can’t wait to see what 2009 has in store!
